The Level 5 NVQ in Planning Lifting Activities is for experienced lifting professionals who are responsible for planning lifts and producing lift plans on live construction sites.
It is not suitable for trainees or people who are not currently involved in planning lifting operations.
This NVQ confirms your competence planning lifting activities safely and effectively. You are showing that you can gather the right information, plan the method, select suitable equipment, manage risk, and communicate the plan to the lifting team and stakeholders.
Assessment is based on evidence from your normal work. There are no classroom sessions, written exams, or training days.
Your evidence is reviewed by a qualified assessor, followed by an online professional discussion over Zoom to confirm competence.
Evidence is based on tasks you already do in your role, such as:
• Lift plans and supporting calculations
• RAMS / method statements
• Drawings, surveys or site information
• Crane charts / manufacturers data (where used)
• Briefings / communications records
• Permits or interfaces (where applicable)
• Meeting notes or coordination records
• Photos from site (set-up, access, hazards)
• Accident / near-miss records (if applicable)
• Witness testimony
A lifting operations assessor will contact you for a short, informal call to confirm the NVQ is suitable and achievable for your role and site.
If suitable, you can then choose when to enrol and begin. There is no obligation to proceed after the call.
