Who is this NVQ for?

The Level 2 NVQ in Plant Operations is for experienced plant operators who already hold a valid CPCS or NPORS red card for the plant category being assessed.

It is not suitable for trainees or operators who have not yet passed their CPCS or NPORS theory and practical tests.

What is the NVQ?

This NVQ assesses your competence operating plant on a live construction site. You are showing that you can operate the machine safely, correctly, and in line with site procedures.

Assessment is based on real work activities, not training scenarios or simulations.

How does assessment work?

Assessment is based on evidence from your normal site work. There are no classroom sessions, written exams, or training days.

Evidence is reviewed by a qualified plant assessor, followed by an online professional discussion to confirm your competence.

The discussion focuses on how you operate the machine, carry out checks, manage risks, and work safely on site.

What evidence is needed?

Evidence is based on tasks you already do at work, such as:

• Short site videos
• Site photographs
• RAMS
• Site inductions
• Toolbox talks
• Near miss reports
• Timesheets
• Plant checks
• Witness testimony

Evidence requirements vary slightly by plant category and site arrangements.

What happens after applying?

A plant assessor will contact you for a short, informal call to confirm that the NVQ is suitable and achievable for your role and site.

This call checks your experience, access to plant, and ability to gather evidence.

If suitable, you can then choose when to enrol and begin the assessment. There is no obligation to proceed after the call.
